The Age of Stupid is the new film from Director Franny Armstrong (McLibel) and producer John Battsek (One Day In September). Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated future world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: “why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?”. He labels our reckless, self annihilating decades of consumerism and greed "The Age of Stupid".

This film moves on from the scientific explanations and graphs used in “The Inconvenient Truth” to focus on the lives of 7 real people around the world who provide the causes, effects and preventions of climate change.

Llanidloes Energy Solutions (LLES) held a meeting at the Minerva Centre on Wednesday 17th January where they viewed a DVD fom Greenpeace on local power generation. LLES aims to produce energy locally in Llanidloes. An interesting discussion followed on the topic.

Those crumbling dinosaurs, fossil fuel fired power stations which are our main source of energy, were built around half a century ago and contribute a major part of the UK's CO2 output.

Fed into the national grid, 32% of the power they generate gets wasted before it even reaches the homes and factories which use it, and an equally valuable product - heat - is not used at all, but is released by giant cooling towers into the atmosphere and into our rivers.
